アラン・カミング特集２☆　Alan Cumming singing “WHY”

チョコレート・ドーナツを観てからアラン・カミングの歌をたくさん聞いてみたいと思われた方も多いのではないでしょうか。
もちろん、私もその一人です。
アラン・カミング特集１ではスタバの店員さんに恋するTaylor the Latte Boy の歌詞の日本語訳を掲載しましたが、今回はもう少ししっとりとした切ないナンバーをご紹介します。
オリジナルはアニー・レノックスというアランと同じスコットランド出身のミュージシャンがソロ活動第一弾として発表したアルバムのオープニングトラック。
いくつものライブパフォーマンスもYouTubeにはアップロードされていて
特にこれなどはしみじみ聞くと泣けてきます。（基本的に私は涙もろい）
切ないけれどとてもパワフルな歌詞でアランの歌っている動画で初めて知ったのですが、この曲自体もとても気に入っています。

アニー・レノックスはのちにこの曲についてこう語っています。
“人生は時にとても不可解で、延々とどうすべきなのか悩み続けている自分がいることに　ふと気が付くことがあります。
また、物事から受けた影響を見つめる事でもあります。
辛く失望に終わった闘いを終えた時、燃えて残った灰を見てを熟考し、自分自身に　あれはいったいなんだったのか、と問うのです。まるで倒壊し燃え落ちた建物の残骸のようにです。“

「燃えて残った灰」！そんな重い思いが描かれている曲なのですね。
アランが曲の最後にニッコリとほほ笑むのがとても印象的です。

This beautiful song was originally sang by Annie Lennox.
I saw several performances of this song by her and all of them are really powerful and touching.
This one especially makes me cry. :*
